Halloween Costumes and Trick or Treating on a Budget

Halloween Costumes

While we all love poker, Texas Hold'em, poker tournaments, and anything that has to do with the industry. Being "poker players" is not all we are about. Most poker players have interests that go beyond what happens during a hand of Texas Hold'em or Omaha. That is why we have the lifestyle section..

There is probably not a person reading this who has not put on a Halloween costume at some point in their lives and screamed “Trick or Treat” at random strangers. On October 31st this sort of activity usually results in a bag full of candy and a strong reprimand from ones dentist. As we get older, “Trick or Treat” usually goes from asking for candy from neighbors to begging for “treats” from the girl at the bar dressed as the nymphomaniac nurse. The bit about putting on Halloween costumes is the same though. In these hard economic times, there are ways to dress for Halloween Parties without breaking the bank at a store or costume rental establishment.

One of the least subtle and most imaginative costumes I have seen at any of the Halloween parties I have been to was a guy dressed all in white, with a shower cap on his head, and the words “Fallopian Swim Team” written on his white t-shirt. Those who don’t have the cheek (or clock weights) to pull that outfit off can try a simple sandwich board, made with two big pieces of cardboard, and the words written on it “Will Work for Food”.

For the traditionalist who wants to be one of the classic types of monsters, there is some good news. Vampires no longer ply their bloody trade while wearing a full tuxedo and formal cape. Today’s vampires are less fashion forward. For example, the character Sookie Stackhouse, from the show True Blood. is dressed like any proper waitress from Bennigans. or Applebees.. The rest of cast wears clothes that can be bought at any Walmart. Add some inexpensive fake fangs, and you go from being a poorly dressed, middle class worker or student to a sexy vampire. For the politically aware, all you need is a black mask, a ski cap, some fake Vulcan ears, and a burlap bag with dollar symbol stamped on it and you can to tour the Halloween parties as Barack Obama.

While these are just examples, the point is that a little thought, and some creativity can will work when money is tight. Have fun this weekend and happy Halloween!
