The hit NBC poker show Poker After Dark was hosting their “Close but No Cigar” week, with poker pros who made it to the final table of the World Series of Poker but did not win. Andy Black, Mike Matusow, Lee Watkinson, Allen Cunningham and David Williams were among the players, but by this hand it was down to heads up action between Andy and Mike.
Andy was holding:
and limped in for $800 in tourney chips and cash. Mike, holding:
checked his option and it was on to the flop.
The Flop came down:
prompting Mike to check from under the gun. Andy fired $3k forward, getting a call from Mike, and it was time for fourth street.
The Turn was:
and this time mike fired out $4k, feeling his oats. Andy was not fooled, and he smooth called with the leading hand.
The River was:
nothing for Mike, but he felt like he had to fire that third bullet of a bluff if he was to have any chance at all at this hand. He moved a big $10,000 forward, and Andy, now with a nice two pair, moved all in over the top. Here it was the first hand of heads up action, and Mike was in danger of losing on his bluff. Naturally he folded and then tried not to go on tilt, angry at himself.
