One of the skills of the pro poker player is to know when take risks and when to pull back. But no one can be right all the time, and in this hand we see what happens when a player sticks around too long.
It was the final table at the Season Seven World Poker Tour Legend of Poker, played at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles and only two players were left. The players were John Pham, Amit Makhija playing for the championship.
Amit had:
the Doyle Brunson hand. He raise it to $400k in tourney chips. John hand:
and simply called.
The Flop was:
This gave John top pair, but he coyly checked. Amit bet out $600k but John called behind to see what fourth street would bring.
The Turn came:
giving Amit bottom pair. This time around when John checked Amit checked behind, worried about the call John gave on the flop.
The River hit:
giving John a flush. He checked once more, continuing to show weakness, and Amit could not help himself and bet out $1.5 million. John called it down and pick up a huge pot.
