When the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event final table got underway it seemed like many of the players didn’t play many hands. These were the mid to short stack crew, those holding on tight and trying to climb the money ladder without much hope for an actual victory, and Craig Marquis and Scott Montgomery were among them.
In this hand Craig looked down to see:
moved all in, and Scott, holding:
made the call. He then pointed out that Craig couldn’t win with a flush because they shared the same suits, by saying “no flush for you.”
The Flop came down:
and the crowd went wild for Craig. While the flop did improve Scott’s hand, the seven on the board meant that Scott would need running cards to win.
The Turn hit:
and Scott got one of the two cards he would need. He was still going broke, however, unless he could catch a king to send Craig home.

and just like that Marquis became the first of the November Nine to go home. The crowd that had cheered for Craig before now cheered for Scott, who asked for a short break to change his pants.
