There was all manner of poker being played at the 2009 NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship, where the action was down to just four players. On the line a half million dollar cash prize and the tile as the worlds best heads up poker player.
Huck Seed and Sammy Farha were at the featured table, and Vanessa Rousso and Bertrand “Elky” Grospeillier at a second table in the semi final round. In this hand the two younger players classed once again in an effort to take control of the game.
Elky was under the gun with:
and raised it to $13k. Rousso held:
and she called, looking for some action on the flop.
The Flop came down:
and now it was Rousso’s time to act first. She Checked it over to Elky, who read this as a sign of weakness and fired a $15,500 bullet at the pot.
At this point Vanessa could have smooth called, assuming that Elky was reaching without the goods, but rather than risk him sticking around with a drawing hand like two over cards, she took action. She re raised him with a min raise to $31k.
Elky, holding nothing but air and dreams, folded and shipped the pot to his opponent.
