There were always interesting hands going on at the 2009 National Heads Up Championship from NBC, even if it wasn’t taking place at the featured table. In the Clubs Bracket on the first episode, with a featured table of Chris Moneymaker and Daniel Negreanu, some of the more interesting hands took place at the table behind them, with Dario Minieri and Mike Matusow.
In this hand Dario had the goods, something Mike couldn’t be sure of because Dario had been bluffing so much before. As the old saying goes, to get action you need to give action.

The Flop came down:
prompting Mike, now first to act, to check. Dario bet out $1,300 on his pair of fives. Mike called.
The Turn hit:
giving Dario a full boat. Mike checked again, and this time Dario checked as well.
The River hit:
and once more Mike checked, holding nothing worth much. Dario took a stab at a pay off and bet $2,400. After a few moments thought, Mike called. “Full,” Dario said, and Mike nodded sagely. “It was that or nothing.”
