The Alabama Cowboy Hoyt Corkins was sitting at his fifth World Poker Tour event final table, the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Classic at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. In the previous four times he never finished less than 3rd – with six players still left (Amnon Filippi, Hoyt Corkins, Steve Sung, Chino Rheem, Justin Young and Evan Mcniff) how would he do this time?
In the prior hand he moved almost all in, leaving behind two chips, with an Ace Small hand. This time he had a big ace:

and once more moved almost all in, leaving two chips on his cards. This was a curious move, one that commentator Mike Sexton pointed out, and could not figure out why he didn’t just move all in. Perhaps it was an attempt at psychological warfare.
Justin had Big Slick, however, and called him with:

and Hoyt checked it over to Justin, who naturally raised him the rest of the way in. Hoyt called, of course, and then hoped to get lucky.

and that was that. The Alabama Cowboy was drawing dead.

and Hoyt shook hands all around, taking his worst finish yet as 6th place in 5 WPT final tables.
