Gabe Sticks Around and Loses Chips

During the latest season of the National Heads Up Championship 2009, round of 64 in the Spades bracket, two men in black cowboy hats and shades faced each other across the table. It was not the featured table sporting Phil “Poker Brat” Hellmuth and Mike “the ambassador of poker” Sexton, but rather a side game that was just as interesting, with Gable Kaplan and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson.

Gabe Kaplan limped in with:

Chris, on the big blind holding:

raised to $1,300. Kaplan called.

The Flop:

and Chris was first to act. He bet out $1,700 and now it was Gabe’s turn to think. He started to reach for chips, and indeed he made the call.

The Turn hit:

and Chris checked his trip kings to try to trap. Gable, though, checked behind.

The River hit:

and, looking at a $6,000 pot, thought how much he could get out of his opponent. He bet out $5,000 to try and look like a bluff, but Gabe was having non of it. After just a moment’s thought, he mucked his hand and shipped the pot to Chris.
