Close, but no

Poker is not a game that lends itself well to truth telling. In fact, most players who would never tell a like in real life find no compunction against fibbing when it comes to their cards, and it is all considered just part of the game. As such, the end of this hand during the 2009 National Heads Up Championship Clubs Bracket was no surprise. It was on the first episode, with a featured table of Chris Moneymaker and Daniel Negreanu.

Danny raised it up to $1,200 with:

Chris, with a slightly inferior hand of:

made a re raise to $3,200. Daniel called.

The Flop came:

a stunner if either player let themselves be spooked by the ace. Crhris was first to act and, having represented a big ace with his pre flop re raise, bet out $2,800. Danny called.

The Turn hit:

and once more Chris fired out, this time $4,800.

“What do you think?” asked Daniel, shaking his head.
“I can tell you your two cards,” said Chris. “Ace Seven.”

“Close, but no,” said Daniel, and folded away the better hand.
