When a player makes a backdoor hand that means it took him two cards to get it and they both come in the final two slots, fourth and fifth street. In this hand a sneak backdoor straight won it for one of the two pros left.
The players were John Pham, Amit Makhija, playing the final table at the Season Seven World Poker Tour Legend of Poker, at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles.

The Flop was:
with John very strongly out in front holding two pair. He checked it to Amit, a known aggressor, and sure enough Amit bet out with $380k. John raised it to $800k. Amit could not resist, holding a flush draw, and moved all in.
John called with his two pair. At that point he just had to avoid a spade to win.
The Turn came:
and all of a sudden John had to worry about the eights – any eight at this point would give Amit a straight and the win.
The River hit:
giving Amit a backdoor straight and winning the pot.
