WPT Season 6 - Jani Shows Imperfection

One would not expect a poker player with the nickname of Hellraiser to be a perfect fellow, but Jani Sointula was playing a near perfect game at the World Poker Tour's Season Six event, the Grand Prix de Paris at the famous Aviation Club. Jani had made it to heads up play, just outlasting his buddy and fellow Finnish poker pro, Thomas Wahlroos. His opponent was Denmark's Christian "the Stamp" Grundtvig, and it was a tough battle for the win.

In this particular hand Chritian started things off with a limp holding:

... Jani was just happy to see a flop for free from the big blind with:

... The flop came down:

... and Jani certainly hit his hand. He followed the prescribed poker tactic in this situation and simply checked, hoping that the stamp collector would take some action behind him. Alas, Christian checked as well, and it was on to the turn.

  The turn came down:

... and incredibly Hellraiser had quad ducks. He was the first to act, and commentators Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten fully expected him to check again, but Jani instead bet out 75k in tourney chips. As was to be expected, the Stamp folded his hand. Mike took a moment to talk about how surprised he was that Jani didn't just keep checking, but perhaps he was just trying something different.
