World Poker Open - The Tiger Roars

Sometimes it is a good idea to advertise the strength of your hand, and sometimes it is a good idea to hide it. The difference can sometimes be subtle, and it often takes a pro level player to make the correct choice, especially in a high profile tournament. At the World Poker Tour World Poker Open we saw the difference.

Gavin Smith, Scotty Nguyen, An "The Boss" Tran, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, and Raul Paez, all poker pros, were playing with Bau "The Tiger" Le, an amateur. In this hand The Tiger tried his best to show his fangs and claws.

Pre flop Bau looked down at one of the best hands in poker to start with:

... a suited Big Slick. This is a prime raising hand, and Le did his best, making it $89k in tourney chips to go.

The only taker was The Grinder, who was happy to call with:

... a great hand, but worse than Bau's. The flop hit:

... super for Le. Michael showed his unhappiness -or perhaps just caution - by chechking to the raiser. Then The Tiger made a mistake - moved all in. Not only did he move all in, he did so with a cracking voice and shaking hands, practically screaming that he had a good hand. The Grinder showed why he was a pro and neatly got away from the hand. He folded.
