During the World Poker Tour Season Five Mirage Poker Showdown, Harry Demetriou and Stan Weiss were desperately trying to knock out Devin Porter in third place. While third place money was nothing to sniff at, second place money was double, and first place more than triple, and Devin was the severe short stack at the table, so it was time for him to go as far as the other two were concerned.
But Stan seemed to be unable to get with the program. Two hands prior to this one, Stan had a chance to knock him out with an Ace high hand, but he mucked it to save what to him was a pittance by not completing his blind. As a result Porter managed to double up, and while Stan did play the next hand Porter still won, this time tripling up to $180k. While that amount wasn't enough to really threaten them yet, Harry and Stan needed Porter to go, and here he was all in again. ... even though he was the underdog to Porter's:
... When the Flop came:
... however, Devin was finally outdrawn. Harry took the lead with Nines, but it wasn't over yet.
The Turn came:
... followed by the River of:
... and THEN it was over. Devin, despite coming back in a rush, was finally felted, busting out in 3rd place and taking home $332,967. An incredible accomplishment, considering this was only his second WPT event, and the first time he played he finished 4th.
