2006 WPT Ladies Night - "The Rich Keep On Getting Richer"

It looked like there was going to be a new champion crowed during the 2006 World Poker Tour Ladies Event, and it might have wound up to be a total newcomer to the game of televised, big dollar poker tournaments, "Poker Mom" Kelli Griggs.

Kelli Griggs had just won a huge pot, as well as ousting defending Ladies Night champ Jennifer Tilly, when her AK hand picked up a King and dodged a Ten to foil Tilly's attempt to fill a straight. The very next hand Kelli looked down to find pocket rockets, and as WPT announcer Mike Sexton said, "The rich keep on getting richer."

  With her:

... she simply called, slow playing the biggest pair in town. JJ Liu folded and Vanessa Rousso decided to call the $10,000 big blind with her:

... hoping for a nice Flop. Anahit Galajian checked her:

... and it was on to the Flop.

  The Flop came down as:

... Vanessa, with nothing much, bet $25,000, getting a call from Anahit she would probably preferred to go without. Both ladies were grimacing, however, when Kelli came way over the top with a bet of $100,000. Vanessa, though really wanting to play out the hand, folded. Anahit had an even tougher time letting go, but in the end, her instincts paid off, however, as she let go of the hand.

Despite Anahit prompting Kelli to reveal her hand by saying, "you probably have Four Five" Kelli held her ground and mucked her aces.
