There are poker names for just about every starting hand in Texas Holdem poker, like Cowboys for pocket kings, Big Slick for ace, king, and the Doyle Brunson for ten, deuce, but most of the time when people get seven, deuce off suit they don't have a clever name for it, they just groan about their bad luck and muck the hand. This hand is considered to be the worst hand in Texas Holdem, but that doesn't mean you can't win with it.
The hand got the name "the Hammer" from online players trying to win with it and then showing it down and taking a screenshot. Eli Elezra may not know about the name, but he sure did wield the hand like a hammer during Mega Match week at NBC's Poker After Dark.
In a hand with Phil Ivey, while Barry Greenstein and Allen Cunningham looked on, Eli raised it up pre flop to $6,400 while holding:
... While suited, this hand still qualifies as a hammer hand. Ivey called him with:
... without knowing that this hand was ahead.
The flop came down:

... Ivey was first to act, and he wanted to see where Eli was, so he just checked. Eli showed him where he was by lying to him - he bet out like he hit that ace, $9,000.
Ivey took a quick look at his hand to make sure he didn't miss an Ace, then mucked the hand, passing the cash to Eli and his hammer.
