Phil "The Poker Brat" Hellmuth really, really wanted to win a pot. It was heads-up play during Hecklers' Week on the NBC show Poker After Dark, and so far his opponent, Shawn Sheikhan, had won every hand. Phil really was starting to curse his luck when this hand came around.
Phil started the action with a limp, completing the blind while holding:
... Shawn, in the big blind, checked his option with a dominating hand:
... The flop came down:

... and Shawn checked. Phil, happy to actually have a hand, even if it was bottom pair, bet out $3,000. He could not have been happy when Shawn called, however. The turn came:

... and once more both players checked. Phil confidently turned over his hand and said, "I think I got ya: a six." To which Shawn replied, "Six what?" He was asking about the kicker, or second card Phil was holding. Once Shawn turned over his better kicker, a switch seemed to go off in Hellmuth. Up till this point he had been joking about Shawn running him over, even though there was a touch of irritation.
Now Shawn tried to be nice, saying, "You played that hand good. You saved yourself some money because I was calling whatever you bet." In response Phil said, "You know what, man, let's just play poker." The famous Hellmuth blow up was only a few hands away.
