Poker After Dark - Quad Cowboys

Usually when a player is said to have Cowboys, they have two kings. Trip kings (or a set of kings) may be called Trip Cowboys, but mostly not. Having four kings? Quad Cowboys? Whatever you call them, the are likely to win the hand, so the only real question is not what do you call them, but how much can you get them to earn for you.

During the Mega Match week at the NBC show Poker After Dark, Phil Ivey had to ask this question. He started out his hand with regular cowbowys, wired Kings:

... by simply limping in, as a good slow playing pro should do. It paid off as Eli Elezra also limped form the small blind with:

... and Allen Cunningham checked from the big blind with:

... The flop hit an amazing:

... flopping quad kings for Ivey. Eli was first to act and, curious about his two pair hand, checked. Allen checked next and Ivey followed suit, trying not to scare away his dinner.

  The turn came:

... and again Eli checked and Allen checked. This time Ivey could not contain himself and bet $5k. Eli called, and Allen folded.

  The river came:

... and Eli checked again. Ivey bet out $16k, and Eli folded. The most interesting part of this hand was not how it wound up, but that Ivey restrained himself and did not show the table that he had flopped four kings, like a true pro.
