Phil Ivey is a very, very sharp poker player. What is amazing is that, if you listen to the other pros talk about him, they say how much better he has gotten since he first started. Sitting at the table with Barry Greenstein, Eli Elezra and Allen Cunningham, with Jen Harman and David Benyamine just recently gone, a player has to be good to survive. This was Poker After Dark, the NBC poker show hosted by Shana Hiatt where the pros play with their own money. This week was Mega Match week, where the pros bought in for $50k instead of $20k, and Ivey wanted that $300k prize. Allen started things out with: ... and raised it to $10,000. As the blinds were at $1,500 and $3,000, this was a decent sized pre flop raise. Ivey didn't think for too long after he saw his: ... and re-raised it. Phil came over the top to the tune of $30,000, more than ten times the big blind. This was a move designed to take the pot down right then. He suspected that Allen did not have the best hand, and made a power play. It probably didn't matter what Phil had, he was going to try this. Unfortunately, Allen figured him out. Allen thought for a moment or two, and them moved all in right over the top of Phil's all in move. What can you do against a move like that? Phil did the only thing left - he quietly folded his hand.
