They say that the best poker style to play a game like No Limit Texas Holdem is Tight Aggressive. This means that a player does not get involved in too many pots (that makes them tight versus loose) and when they take action, they bet hard (that makes them aggressive instead of passive.) There are varying degrees of how to play tight aggressive, however, as could be seen by the pros playing in Poker After Dark, the NBC late night poker show.
This particular week had some heavy hitters as Chris Ferguson, Layne Flack, Erik Seidel, Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, and T.J. Cloutier, who all had collectively 45 World Series of Poker bracelets between them, played some poker.
This hand saw Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, the 2000 champ of the WSOP, playing T.J. Cloutier who has yet to win a WSOP championship title. Chris started it off with a raise to $600 with:
... and TJ came along with:
... The flop came:

... and now it was TJ's turn to act. He checked, and Chris bet $800. TJ called.
The turn came:
... and both players checked. The river came:
... and both players checked it down.
Chris was out ahead with his pair of eights, and he took advantage of that with the bet on the flop. The call worried him, however. If TJ had nothing, he would have folded, but a call suggested he might have been holding a ten for a bigger pair, thus the check on the turn.
TJ made his hand - and won with it but with a 9 on the river, he also couldn't bet at it, because what if that bet by Chris on the flop was because HE was holding a ten?
