Poker After Dark - I Knew He Was Trying to Bust Me

  Gabe Kaplan was a stand up comedian. He started in a popular show in the 1970's called "Welcome Back Kotter" (that show also launched John Travolta's career) and then sort of dropped from view. But poker players knew where he was - at the World Series of Poker, holding his own. Since then he has become a regular poker pro and poker commentator, and was a great fit in the Cowboy Week shows of season three of Poker After Dark.



  He held his own as Hoyt Corkins, Doyle Brunson, Chau Giang, and Chris Ferguson all hit the rail, leaving only Andy Bloch in heads up competition, and Andy had a huge chip lead.



  In this hand Andy was first to act, and he decided to put on the pressure right away. He moved all in, more than Gabe had, with:






... Gabe thought about it - he knew that Andy could make that move with many hands, and as Kaplan mentioned in an after game interview, "I knew at that point he was trying to bust me." So, when Gabe saw he was holding:






... he made the call. Both players laughed when they saw that Gabe had Andy out kicked with a four. The flop hit:







... and Gabe was ahead - he also picked up a straight draw. The turn hit:

... giving Gabe a flush and a double up.
