Poker After Dark - I Believe

  Poker After Dark is an NBC show that runs six nights a week, an hour a night, where famous players participate in a single short handed game of No Limit Holdem. In this installment it was Poker Commentators Week, with six players who are also poker commentators. Mike Sexton, Howard Lederer and Chad Brown were included at the table, but in this hand it was Phil Gordon from Celebrity Poker Showdown - calling the shots.  One remarkable element of this game, besides all the chatter, was the tightness of the table, with very few hands making it to the showdown. In this hand Gordon, from under the gun, raised to $2,200 pre flop, roughly three times the big blind, holding: ... Gabe Kaplan, who commentated the World Series of Poker years ago, called with: ... as did Michael Konik from the big blind holding: ... although it looked very much like he wanted to raise.  The Flop came: ... and Phil casually tossed out two bundles of cash, one of the elements they used on Poker After Dark in addition to chips. Each bundle was $5,000, and the pot started at $7,000, so this bet made a statement. "Very good bet, sir," said Gabe Kaplan, who folded his middle pair.  Konik, commenting on previous betting behaviors of Phil, said, "What happened to the probing bets?" He thought and finally said, "I believe I started the pot with a better hand than you, and I believe that you have a better hand that me now." With that, Konik made a nice lay down and showed the reason he was chosen to sit with the more famous players at the table.
