Poker After Dark - Brat Not Worst

During the 3rd season of NBC's hit poker show Poker After Dark there were a lot of themed weeks. One that many were looking forward to, Heckler's Week, would give them a chance to see how the new hostess Marianela Pereyra would fare with some of the biggest trouble makers in the game of pro poker. Sam Grizzle, Phil Hellmuth, Shawn Sheikhan, Jean-Robert Bellande, Mike Matusow and Gavin Smith were all on hand (and all, it is refreshing to say, polite to the new host).

In this hand Phil Hellmuth, known as the Poker Brat, continued a streak of dominating the table with great play. In the previous hand he got Shawn to lay down Ace Jack suited pre flop with a huge over bet while holding a dominated Ace Two suited, and in this hand he continued the trend.

The hand started with Phil's nemesis Sam Grizzle (the two once got into a fist fight) calling the big blind with:

... and Phil calling with:

... Gavin Smith wanted to play with:

... and as no one raised his big blind, he checked his option to see the flop. The flop hit with:

... and Phil checked. Smith, thinking bottom pair was worth a shot, bet out $400 in cash and chips. Sam folded out of the way and left the decision up to Phil.

Phil, who actually was in the lead with a pair of sixes, likely thought he was bluffing when he check raised it to $1,400. Gavin thought, and thought, and thought some more, and finally had to fold his sailboats out of the way of Phil's hidden Route 66.
