Poker After Dark - A New Chip Leader

When watching the World Poker Tour poker fans may get the impression that every pot is six figures and the proper move is to push all in every other hand. Shows like Poker After Dark give a more accurate representation of how the game of poker is to be played as six professional players put up $20,000 of their own money as the camera records every moment of every hand - many of them quite boring. A lot of the hands are taken down cheaply with little action, but every once in a while a sizable pot appears.

During the third season of the show, during a week called Hecklers' Week, there was such a hand. All five of the remaining players - Sam Grizzle, Phil Hellmuth, Shawn Sheikhan, Jean-Robert Bellande, and Gavin Smith - participated in what is called a family pot.

  Phil limped in with:

... as did Smith with:

... Sam also called the big blind holding:

... and Robert completed his small blind holding:

... Shawn, waking up in the big blind with Cowboys:

... raised that up to $2,400. Phil leaned over and asked how much Shawn had left. After sitting in the tank for a few moments he made the call while everyone else folded. The flop hit the table as:

... and both players checked. When the turn came down:

... Shawn bet $6,000. Phil must have picked up something, but he made the call with what he thought was top pair. The river came down as:

... and Shawn pushed forward $10,000. Phil thought about it for some time but in the end he just couldn't get away from his ladies and made the call, shipping over a sizable portion of his chip stack to the new chip leader.
