Poker After Dark - A Bad Payoff

Once things get down the heads up on the NBC show Poker After Dark there is a lot of money in play. After six players have paid $20,000 to play, there's $120,000 on the table and there are only two people left playing for it. In this particular game, during International Week, those two people were Patrik Antonius and Brad Booth.

Bradley limped in with "the Hammer", or the worst hand in Texas Holdem:

... Patrik checked his option to see the flop while holding:

... The community cards came down, and while Brad made a pair, Patrik had two pair with a flop of:

... Patrik was first, and he knew that Brad was a very aggressive player. He was not afraid to bet, so he put out $1000 in tournament chips and cash. His opponent called. The turn came:

... and once more Patrik bet, this time $1500, and once more Brad called. The river came down:

... further improving Patrik's hand from two pair to a flush. Brad still had the same pair he started out with; it was amazing he didn't fold immediately when Patrick bet $10,000 in tournament cash and chips. Instead he went in the tank for a long time and eventually convinced himself that his opponent was bluffing. He made the call and paid off Patrik.

Patrick immediately said, "Flush!" Brad looked like he had been punched in the stomach as he passed over the chip lead, but instead just said, "Nice hand."
