Aussie Millions - The Luck of the Wallaby

  At the final table of the Full Tilt Poker sponsored Aussie Millions the player who needed luck the least was getting the most of it. The only pro player, and the only American, was Erik Seidel, the infamous runner up to Johnny Chan in World Series of Poker past, had a little lucky charm at his elbow given him by another player who busted out - a stuffed Wallaby named Wally.



  Erik was down in chips until the previous hand when he doubled up with a set versus pocket aces. In this hand he came across another pocket pair, this time nines. His:

... and it was Erik's turn to act. The pro checked his option, and the amateur did the same. The turn hit as:





... and once more both players checked. It was time for the river and some action. The river hit:





... and Erik figured his nines were good. He bet out $150k. Mike, holding no hand to speak of, tried to get fancy and raised it to $375k. This was suspicious to Erik, who had watched Mike check it twice and then raise him on the river. He either had a monster or nothing. Erik was going for nothing, he made the call. Mike mucked his cards and muttered, "you win." Erik was now second in chips.
