Poker Computer Game Review – “Governor of Poker” Provides Texas Hold’em Fun

Governor of Poker

It is not often that somebody gets to be a Texas Hold’em player AND an old west slum lord at the same time, but the poker computer game Governor of Poker gives players that opportunity. Before we get into game play, anyone expecting this piece of poker software to be a great training aid can stop reading right here. This is a game, not the sort of Texas Hold’em software that will prepare somebody for a day at the casino. So if the poker software review was evaluating it on it’s AI, and ability to mimic human behavior, it would get two stars at best. This poker computer game is meant to challenge and entertain though, and on that score, it wins big

This game starts off with your character in the old west, Texas town, of San Saba. In real life, this city is the Pecan capital of the world, but for the purposes of this poker software review and the game, it is the place where your character will be playing Texas Hold’em. Players can interact with other people while walking around in the city. Players can ask people they meet questions and get tips about how to play Texas Hold’em. Players can also borrow money to get the buy-in for various poker tournaments.

When you get to a tournament, the poker software switches you to an over the table view and you do your best to survive against the best that San Saba has to offer. Things can get rather silly as you eliminate player after player (if you can actually eliminate player after player…it’s not easy). As players win more tournaments and money, they can use their funds to buy buildings in the city, and eventually become the boss of San Saba.

The game play is fun, the graphics are cartoony and hilarious, and the whole experience is just enjoyable. Isn’t that what we really want out of Texas hold’em software and games? Considering the fact that you can buy it for just over $6.00, there really isn’t much to lose.
