WSOP Poker Pro Phil Hellmuth Should Take the Durrr Challenge

Dwan vs Hellmuth

On the LaunchPoker.com MySpace page, we have posted a video of poker pros Phil Hellmuth and Tom Dwan being interviewed by the ever lovely Leeann Tweeden. During this interview Phil compliments the online poker ace by saying that he admires Tom’s skill at playing his particular brand of poker. It seems that after he tips his cap to Tom, the 11 time WSOP bracelet winner then goes on to trash the very style that Dwan plays. So in nutshell, he is telling Tom “durrr” Dwan that he is really good at something that really sucks. That is the kind of hubris that has not only made Phil infamous as the “Poker Brat”, but has also helped him win millions in live poker and championships in high profile poker tournaments. Of course in head to head competition against Tom Dwan, Phil has usually come away on the losing end. Thankfully there is a way to settle this little rivalry.

If Phil’s heart is truly in line with the words that come out of his mouth, maybe he should take the Durrr challenge, and put his money (and reputation) on the line against the online poker sensation. Poker tournaments are one thing. A couple of hands against each other in the WSOP or some other poker tournament proves nothing, but after 50,000 hands of poker there is no doubt who is the better player. So should Phil man-up and take the Durrr challenge? Or should he just continue to run his mouth from a safe distance, knowing that unless he takes the Durrr challenge, there is no way to ever prove that Dwan is the better player. Playing devil’s advocate, taking on Dwan in the 50,000 hand challenge would be an act of courage, but from a legacy standpoint, it might not be a smart idea. If he losses to Dwan, Phil becomes this generations Nick “The Greek” Dandolos. We will follow up on this once we get comment from both players.
