Blood Sweat and Tears was around before the boom of television Texas Hold’em, online poker, and mainstream acceptance of poker pros as celebrities. For that matter, it seems like they were around before the pyramids, opposable thumbs, and the sort of forbidden fruits that are only offered by snakes. Well okay, they are not that old, but most folks who are in the online poker generation, were probably born long after this band had their first hit. Just because this band is older than disco, doesn’t mean they were not good, or that their music doesn’t have some relevance today. Their song “Go Down Gambling” should be on the iPod of every poker player who would rather put their bankroll into a Kamikaze dive instead during a bad run than muck about with that whole “live to fight another day” bit.
This song has such inspirational lyrics as "Go down gambling, say it when you're running low, Go down gambling, you may never have to go." Blood, Sweat, and Tears is just singing what many live poker players and internet Texas Hold’em competitors are already thinking, so when you’re getting low, why not just crank this song during a poker hand, and do something unexpected.
While very few people let music make their decisions for them, songs that become anthems do so because they express what is already in somebody’s heart. Usually the expression involves power chords (not really in this case though). Many poker pros play exactly in the manner that “Go Down Gambling” suggests, and the band seemed to understand the nature of online poker players long before there was an internet (maybe their prophets). Anyway, enjoy the song when you’re playing some hands of poker. If you get low, maybe the advice in the song will do you some good. Why fight another day when the fight is already in front of you? Lace up your boots, and Go Down Gambling.
