Why do people play Texas Hold’em? Why do people risk eye strain and carpal tunnel syndrome playing online poker? Why do people flock to Vegas and risk their mortgage money and self respect at the holdem tables? The answer to all these questions is the same; money. Yea, Texas Hold’em in a pleasant game, and is popular on television, but if money wasn’t involved, nobody would probably care. All the television holdem players would probably toddle off and engage ins some high stakes “Chutes and Ladders” or strip CandyLand. So with money being the driving force behind the rise of online poker and the dominance of television poker tournaments, doesn’t it make sense that the some “Money” by Pink Floyd should be considered one of the top poker songs?
According to Mr. Floyd (I always love meeting people who think “Pink Floyd” is the name of someone in the band), money is the following:.
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money get back
I'm all right Jack
Keep your hands off my stack
Anybody who has played in poker tournaments or online poker probably shares these feelings. The terminology is such that one would think the guys in the band were poker players themselves. I don’t think anybody would ever expect Roger Waters or David Gilmour to spend their post-Floyd days playing poker or showing up on the EPT. It is more likely that they will do one more concert together, and we all know that will only happen when pigs fly. In the world of Floyd though, that means it is about 50/50.
