The infamous Perez Hilton has long since questioned his own sexuality and burst from the closet with glorious aplomb. Actress and poker pro, Shannon Elizabeth, is the type of woman who could have him re-questioning his particular decision, and possibly send him back into a closet of confusion that could cause ones hippocampus to explode. Long before she gained a reputation as a live poker ace, she caused most of the western worlds adolescents to experience spontaneous puberty by her antics in the film American Pie. Since that on screen coming out party, she has been a regular on television and films as well as a common site at casinos and poker tournaments.
At first, her modest forays into hold’em were not taken very seriously. Let’s face it, playing live poker against Kathy Griffon, Chevy Chase, and Coolio on Celebrity Poker Showdown doesn’t do a lot for someone’s reputation as a poker pro. That changed when she bloodied up such WSOP multiple bracelet winners as Jeff Madsen, Barry Greenstein, and Humberto Brenes during the 2007 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Had she bested them in one of high profile poker tournaments, one could have made the excuse that it was the attrition nature of a tourny that contributed to her success. Beating those gentlemen, heads up, at hold’em suddenly got a lot of people’s attention. In that particular event, she wound up coming in third.
Since then she has done well in various tournaments and events. She is regular visitor to Vegas, and while she is known as more of a live poker player, there is no doubt that she frequents a number of poker websites as well. Granted, she has not completely lived up to the expectations many have had for her as a poker player, but when you are straddling an acting career and poker, something has to give.
