The moment many poker pros have dreaded happened a little while ago. Poker player extraordinaire, Annette “The Huntress” Obrestad turned 21. Annette became the youngest WSOP bracelet winner when she took home the trophy for the World Series’s European Main Event at age 18. Since that point in time a lot of holdem players have figured they could hide in North America, and not face her in tournament play. Now that she is old enough to play in the United States, she is making her debut on the show Poker After Dark. She is participating in the theme that brings together the poker pros with the coolest nicknames. Her moniker of “The Huntress” qualifies her as a poker player with one of the best handles in the game.
Joining her on Poker After Dark are some of the most popular holdem players in the sport. Mike Matusow, Antonio Esfandiari, Erick Lindgren, Phil Laak, and Phil Hellmuth (who seems to be on almost every episode this year) will be staring down the wonder tot, and trying to tarnish her American television debut. So how did the WSOP Wunderkind do? Well you will have to watch the show to find out. Well, not really. She did as well on American soil as Cornwallis did a couple hundred years before. For those who slept during history class, that means she lost. For the five people who probably haven’t seen it yet, we won’t give away the winner, but Annette finished in 5th place.
This inglorious debut into the American poker television market does not diminish her as a poker player, but it does take a bit of a bloom off the rose. For a lot of people, she now looks human and beatable.
