Lady Luck Appears at the Irish Open

Irish Open

Poker Pro James Mitchell hasn’t had a lot of luck in his life. To start off with, this poker player looks like the product of a drunken roll in the hay between Al “Stuart Smalley” Franken and Jack Black. Thankfully he has had more luck at holdem then he has at genetics. After a lively and contentious Irish Open poker tournament, he came away the winner. Mitchell may have gotten the €600,000 but lady luck was awarded an assist for her actions during some of the pivotal poker hands that James played.

A good example of how Ms. Luck smiled on Mitchell’s poker tournament hopes happened when he and 2nd place finisher, poker pro Paul Carr, were the last two players standing. Carr was dealt a Qh-Qc and Mitchell was given a As-6s. Carr went all-in with his 4 million chips and Mitchell either had to fold or try to make a silk purse out of this sows ear of a poker hand. He called with his 3 million chips and after that the future of the poker players was in the hands of fate. For his courage, Mitchell was rewarded with a flop of 3d-9d-Kc. A flush was off the board. The turn him very few favors as well. It was a 7h. James Mitchell was one card away from having his tournament end with him the runner-up position. The river was an Ace. It was a sudden reversal of holdem fortunes, and a blow that Carr never really recovered from. About an hour later, Paul Carr was eliminated and James Mitchell was the new Irish Open Champion. We congratulate him on his victory!
