Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time

Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time

If youre looking for a book on poker strategy, keep looking. This one is not it. If the idea of a billionaire going on kamikaze runs to Vegas, and challenging the worlds best poker players to ridiculously high stakes games, sounds interesting to you, this is your book.  Author, Michael Craig chronicles the adventures of billionaire banker, Andy Beal, as he engages the pros (Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Ted Forrest, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harmon, Barry Greenstein, Todd Brunson and many more) in games of poker that reach such dizzying stakes as $100,000 a hand. Not only does this novel cover the games themselves but it delves into the preparation for battle and lifestyles of the pros. It is a window into the lives, thoughts, fears, and nerves of the high limit pros with a snippet of heads-up strategy.  This was a fun book to read. The free flowing narrative kept the pages turning quickly while keeping the reader engaged and interested. Being a fly on the wall as the pros pool their bankrolls in order to keep up with the billionaire is a position that anyone interested in high stakes Holdem will relish.  This book has all the elements that make for enjoyable book. There is conflict, suspense, resolution, and a snappy prose style that makes the book easy on the reader. I strongly recommend this book not only for the hard core poker player, but for those who have a casual interest in the game.Article of the Day Archive
