Internet Texas Holdem by Matthew Hilger

  How many people do you suppose are playing poker online at any given time? Thousands? Hundreds of Thousands? Millions? We cant give you an exact number, but we do know that you could populate a fairly good sized city with the number of online poker players. Looking up adult content and Star Trek trivia may still be the most popular activities on the internet, but online poker is quickly catching them in popularity. So if youre going to play online, wouldnt a guide to playing in cyberspace be something helpful and needed?  Matthew Hilger has put together a very good guidebook to the art of playing holdem online. The line under the title states winning strategies from an internet pro. The part about Matthew being an internet pro is absolutely true, but bit about winning strategies is a little more up in the air. Yes, this is a very good guidebookfor beginners. It is a detailed and meticulously written tome about the ins and outs of holdem play. If you are just starting out and know very little about holdem, this is the book for you. Eighty percent of the content is instructional about the game itself. The other twenty percent deals exclusively of the specific art of playing online.  The book retails for about nineteen dollars, and believe me there are worse things you can do with that money. There is value in this book. An intermediate player may find most of it old hat, but will still glean some knowledge from what Mr. Hilger has written. The only real criticism we have with this is perhaps the way it is written. The best word we can come up with to describe the writing style is, clinical.   The book is dry. Dry like the desert. Dry like your mother-in-laws pot roast. It is hard and boring to read.   In conclusion, if you can stay awake while reading this book, the knowledge you will gain is worth the effort for a beginner.
