Harrington On Holdem: Volume 2 by Dan Harrington

Harrington On Holdem: Volume 2 by Dan Harrington

Just when you thought that Dan Harrington had said all he could say on the topic of Holdem, he comes back with another book full of advice. It seems that Mr. Harrington is determined to bring championship strategy to the masses and train the next generation of World Series of Poker champs.  As George Lucas and Star Wars have proven, sequels rarely live up to expectation, and usually just leave us feeling empty inside. Harrington, though, has managed escape the curse of the sequel and top his first book, Harrington on Holdem: Volume 1.  Volume 2 is the natural extension from his first book. Volume 1 dealt mostly with strategy in the early stages of a tournament. Volume 2 goes into detail on how to finish strong and play the later stages of a tourney. His strategy spans the range from basic advice of how to play the hand, to more advanced issues on how to play when the blinds and antes get bigger and bigger.  This is not a book for beginners (though the newbies will get a lot out of it). Harrington is completely aware that some of his theories will be like teaching quantum physics to an 11th grade algebra class. With this in mind the explanations are deliberately written in a way that will be understandable to just about everyone. Even so though, the reader will benefit by going over things three or four times before moving on to the next topic. Some of the best advice I have run across about getting the most out of this book suggests doing only a few of the problems per day to avoid burning yourself out.  This book carries a twenty dollar price tag for the paperback. This is money well spent. Buying both volumes will be the best thing you can do for your game.
